Cure for Smelly feet in sea boots

Re: Cure for Smelly feet in sea boots

Pure wool socks,
Trouble is they are nearly impossible to find as there’s always a bit of nylon in the wool.
SWMBO (who’s not very domesticated) orders the wool specially and knits mine, she hates doing it but say’s it’s well worth it.

Saved my marriage.

Re: Cure for Smelly feet in sea boots

There's a chemical that some ski boot hire companies use - sorry I don't know what it is, but I would like to because it makes a huge difference.

I also dry wet boots overnight with Dryzone Boot Dryers. They absorb moisture from the boot. You dry them out the next day on a radiator.

Re: Cure for Smelly feet in sea boots

Got a pair of sandals with something in it whch is supposed to do the same. Never had a problem with smelly feet till I wore them!

Re: Cure for Smelly feet in sea boots

I have only had to wear boots when I was on a monohull. Other than that, The only time I can recall wearing them onboard was when I wanted to do a proper wash down.

Re: Cure for Smelly feet in sea boots

Put the boots in the freezer overnight, kills the bacteria that make your feet pong. Works for trainers and sandals as well.

Re: Cure for Smelly feet in sea boots

The freezing might help kill the smell but it won't kill the bacteria. If you want to store bacteria in a lab, that's how you store them- in a freezer. Ordinary freezer if you want to keep them for a bit, ultra low freezer or liquid nitrogen if you want to keep them indefinitely

Re: Cure for Smelly feet in sea boots

It probably works by stopping the little bu**ers from feeding and excreting whatever it is that makes the pong. No doubt as soon as they wake up from their snooze in the freezer they get to work again so at best a short term solution I would think.

liquid nitrogen if you want to keep them indefinitely

You're kidding, surely? Feet-pong bvacteria will survive at -140degreesC?

And how could you possibly know that? Nike research labs latest test results?

Re: Cure for Smelly feet in sea boots

So you put some old smelly socks in liquid nitrogen and they still stank afterwards?

How do you know the bacteria were still alive?

Re: Cure for Smelly feet in sea boots

because I've worked in labs, and putting bacteria in liquid nitrogen or ultra low freezers is the accepted way of storing them, and you can take them out years or decades later, put them onto media and grow them?

[/ QUOTE ]Surely you mean -196°C (the boiling point of liquid Nitrogen)
