cunningham

Boats without them dont need them, just have the luff slightly shorter & tighten the luff upwards to bring the max chord forward.
The sail would also be cut flatter & less adjustable,in a pure cruising boat

Not everyone (in fact, very few here I'd guess) have boats that have been measured up for black bands. I'm not unaware of their existence or purpose, but I am aware that most boats don't have them.

Oh is this Part 2 of my test then sir?:)

I am sure you are aware that this is only appopriate if Tigger Too is going to race his Duffer classic and has any part of his sail beyond the maximum bands.

guys, guys... cool it. I have learnt a huge amount tahnks to your exchanges here. I never race, but I am keen to learn as much as possible how to improve my sailing/sail trim even when cruising. Just for the fun of it.

I will try rigging a Cunnigham, and see if it makes a difference. I have also now learn what those black bands on the spars are :o...

(by the way, the only Duffer on Tigger is the Skipper (moi))...

Cheers!
