Would a 40ft princess be underpowered with these engines for planning and are there any problems common to the Cummins 250 ? Second question, I have never heard of a make of boat ' ACM' they seem to make a 38 Ft and a 42ft boat could anyone tell me are they semi displacement or planning hulls ?They seem quite reasonably priced is there a reason why? Any advise or comments much appreciated-Tim

The Cummins 6BTA 250 with the CAV DPA was a gutsy motor however the DPA fuel pump was never up to the job, the end of injection hydraulic pulse could shatter the rotor head. I have sticking plaster which is a test plan which locks timing in retard, alternatively Bosch VE conversion is total fix and gives genuine 260 hp and works.

PM me if you need to know more.

I doubt 500hp will push a 40 ft princess much over 17/18 knots, which model of princess is it, the only princess that had cummins 250 lumps were the 35 and the 388, I had a 388 with 306hp vp lumps in which gave a max 30 knots, was 38ft and 9 tons.

the boat is a princess 360,I think they are about 40ft so sounds like it would be a bit underpowered, another 360 has TAMD 63 ,or caterpillar 3116 but I think VP suggested the volvos would be more reliable. One question VP about the manifold problems on the caterpillar 3116 ,is it a fault that may have already been rectified on an older engine or is it a reaccuring problem with these engines ? Many thanks to VP and Latestarter for all the advise

Just a bit of lateral thought, Cummins did campaign the CAV 250's with de-rated 300's if the customer shouted loud enough. If the vessel you are looking at has been campaigned with Nippon Denso pump, and dependent upon gearbox capacity, re-rating to 300 is straightforward.
