CU Pro Antifoul by SML Paints

I am looking for something similar to Jotuns Seaforce 30 which is now only available to "professionals". Has anyone tried the CU Pro antifoul that SML paints has produced. The spec sheets look alright and it is supposed to be similar to the Jotuns but if anyone has real life experience they can share it would be appreciated.

I used it last season and will use it this year. It gave the best results I ve seen to date and was easier to apply than their non stop product.

Alas, no real life experience from me.

BUT as I understand it, the copper in this paint, like CopperCoat, will require your boat to be in properly salty water, not like the brackish area in the tidal approaches to a river (like my old berth in Portsmouth harbour).

I used it last Season and it performed very well, I am in Portsmouth Harbour which is a high fouling area and in the past have tried just about all the combinations from the cheapest to very expensive all with mixed results and I normally end up having to have a mid season scrub. I used Cu Pro last year and a) it goes on easily b) at end of season I had just a bit of waterline slime but no hard fouling

I am using it again this year

According to SML, cuPro is supposed to be for professional users, but seems they will sell it to you if you promise to behave!:

"CU-PRO is a new antifouling product developed here at SML Marine Paints. It is a premium self-polishing antifouling boosted with a commercial grade biocide to give improved performance, fuel economy and a service interval of up to three years. The Health & Safety Executive (HSE) have approved CU-PRO 'For professional use only'. We can supply CU-PRO to leisure users however you will be asked to confirm at the point of ordering that it will be applied in accordance with the appropriate HSE regulations."

I was disappointed with its performance - you can still get seaforce30 from avace although it should be applied 'professionally'

I tried to get hold of that. I even gave the boatyard address but they wanted to see training certification etc etc and cancelled the sale.

I have had the same problem in trying to get hold of Seaforce 30. Wanted my IMO no and when explained it was for a yacht of fart less than a 100 gross tons wanted to know who the professional was who would apply ist VAT no, Reg office etc. I got the impression they would only send it if the professional checked out and they could send it direct to them. Bonkers but life is too short to continue debating with them-hence the search for a decent alternative.

Swapped from Micron Plus last time. I like and hope to work to a 2 year cycle which Micron achieved easily.

So far (about 18 months) CU Pro is every bit as good, maybe better in terms of water line fouling, so very pleased with their product. Also it was much easier to apply than Micron.
