Crutch strap 'parts'

Yes I am a tight wad. I have lost part of a crutch strap and wonder if you can buy just bits. Its one of the plastic socket bits that is fitted to a short loop which goes over the waist strap. The crutch strap then goes under the leg and clips into it. Any sources known?
Reading the Lion MAIB report has focussed the mind a bit and I realise that one strap is not really good enough!
The report suggests that the straps will pull through with a 50 kg load so not really safe to assume that the jacket wont pull off if a casualty is being raised by the built in harness.
Is there a way to double secure the fastenings or would the plastic clips be the next failure point?
 
I'm sure I read on here somewhere that there was an accident because the pastic clips failed and the lj raised up. So yes, you are correct the cheap wad lj manufacturers are not supplying beefy enough clips.

We need a bit of military design going into the boaty market; triple stich this, over size that - but then, they aren't in it for profit margins of 100-300%, they just want to keep their guys safe (and boaty designers only pretend they want to keep people safe (from reading about bulbs etc failing on this forum)
 
Plastic clips

They obviously have a fairly limited load rating but are really convenient. As said a shackle or even a snap shackle should do better. or consider fitting a second crutch strap one each side rather than one in the middle.
I made up a harness which from the waist strap had a strap which effectively went under the buttocks (imagine you are seated.) then forward to the waist strap nearer the front. This takes the weight in comfortable manner This was held in place by 2 loops around each leg which might take more weight if you are vertical. I think there are lots of options. olewill
 
These CRUTCH straps, I dont know.

But handy if you are a pirate, for to strap your CRUTCH out of the way when you want to SCRATCH your CROTCH
 
A sail tie looped onto the webbing at the back of the LJ, brought under the legs then tied to the harness point at the front with a round turn and two half hitches will be strong, simple and cheap.
 
Polymorph also called thermoplastic can be moulded when softened in a pan of water heated to 60 C.

The idea being you can make your own bits and peices, also a crotch cup to protect more sensitive areas.

Personally id drill a few holes around the cup it to let the skin breath and make sure its comfortable when worn under the strap. also i believe there are items like this sold in regards to some sports.

You might like to use foil in your pan in case the water is too hot permanantly sticking small amounts of polymorph to your pan making it unusable for cooking foodstuffs.

Great minds!!! I had thought to just take some light rope from the back but a sail tie would be flat and better. Still have the crutch straps as anti ride up protection with the sail tie as hauling out support. Sail tie needs oversewing I guess?
 
I made my own for my L/J's. Bought the webbing from Kayospruce(or was it Profabrics?[Pointnorth]) and also the buckles and sewed them on myself. I'm fortunate in having an Industrial sewing m/c but a domestic machine will be OK if using a proper strong Bonded Polyester Thread.
