I have no fitting in the bow for a cruising chute but the magic fuel will come with everything and yes a new sail. Hence the interest in setting up an ATM system which uses my existing spinnaker and sniffer into a cruising chute. See the video it uses the existing furled Genoa as a cruising chute forestay.
Just trying to get others experience and how far off the wind I need to be for either system.
It depends on the cut of the sail and whether a pole is used. A flattish Code 0 might be good for between say 85-125deg, whereas an A4 140-165ish, more if poled out.
It's hard to know without seeing your sail, but a cruising boat will probably have been fitted with something like an A2/A5 cross: a somewhat more manageable sail size-wise, a reasonably heavy fabric and a range of say 120-160deg. If you bought a spinnaker at the same time your asymmetric might be a bit flatter, but a few pics would help.
I'd say that 120-160 wouldn't be too far wide of the mark though.
