Cruising suspended

Roger, Have pm'd you and if a shotley trip is on the cards then let me know when and we could sail up separately and tow when needed to save using your engine.

Thanks all - I have just had a message for a forumite who has all the secondhand bits:) See what the engineer makes of it on Friday.

Good to hear you're sorted Roger, been a bit tucked up with things mechanical myself, still not sorted but then I've never had to do the timing on a beast like what I've got. Not the boat though for a change, dead car syndrome is haunting and unpleasant at the best of times but this one has me stumped :(
I had forgotten how knackering it is to work on engines :o

The engineer has been

My diagnosis of a hole in the sump has been confirmed. Plus front engine mounts. The PBO forum suggestions about using an epoxy or "liquid metal" for a fix have been discounted by me (and would not be guaranteed by the engineer) - I don't want to be thinking about and checking for oil leaks every trip. So I am going for a proper job - engine out next week (engineer then away for a week). Whilst out he will get the cast ali sump welded, take the head off and lap the valves and have a clean up, fix the leaking injector and do a full service and filter change so there will be nothing to do next year. Time scale three weeks. Cost scale less than a grand plus parts. Whilst engine is out I shall renew the insulation which is in a poor state.

It's been a good season so missing three weeks isn't too bad and she should run even better afterwards. "Cheesed off of Leigh" is now relaxed - and a mate with a Moody 31 says I can borrow his when I like:)

£1k for all that would be value indeed, and peace of mind thereafter. And having aired the issue here, should you have decided to bodge the sump and move on I doubt your insurer would have taken the matter lightly had a claim resulted!

Replacing the soundproofing is a good idea - I used Halyard's slabs, screwed and glued. Not cheap but substantially better soundproofing.

Good luck,

PWG
