So that's why an item on Sunday's Agenda (Chi Fed AGM) is what to do about boats doing just that.
If we end up with CCTV on the Bar Beacon you'll have some explaining to do!!

A little more clarity on my part sorry,
When I say "coming into Chichester" I don’t mean in the harbour, goes without saying I would not be doing 24kts in the harbour. I am talking at least 1/2 mile off West Pole.
However as you raise the point I think the limit out there is unreasonable. There is no way on this earth that a mobo wash is going to damage the shore, it’s just too far out. The actual limit should not be until the Eastoke beacon.
Some will say if the limit started further in yachts will have a rough time from mobo wash, but the opposite is true at the moment, on a rough day coming off the plane so far out in a mobo can be uncomfortable in the extreme and even dangerous for crew. Without a keel you might as well be on a polystyrene tile. I expect the beginning of the limit is some sort of compromise, but for a mobo it’s too far out, and in my view it’s only a question of considerate behaviour between yachts and mobo’s not the environment.
Now if the harbour authorities and interested groups wanted to do something useful, stopping racing across the main channel would be the best place to start. Why is it ok for those little skate board affairs with a sail an a fin underneath to do 30 knots all around you and across the channel yet everyone else has to slow to 7 or 8 kts a mile out to sea? Bearing in mind in both cases there is no environmental issue. There are many areas of open water in the harbour, yet race organisers seem to only want to race across the busy channel?
I admit my knowledge and experience in Chichester area is limited and I stand ready to learn from the more experienced and seasoned forumites. But I don’t speed in the entrance channel even if I feel the limit is inappropriate. I have recently taken to coming in east across the shallows keeping what must be over ½ mile off the boats in the channel, gradually slowing dropping off the plane and entering the channel at 7kts a bit further in. We manage to stay in our seats that way /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
