Cruising in the Lake Saimaa

@MapisM: the Fountain in question was a 35. Yep, this place is quite far from Lappeenranta by boat (maybe 90 nm) although not that far as the crow flies. Maybe we can visit the place next time you come to visit ;)

@Pinnacle: judging by the Sardinia-thread you really have a lot to look forward to (in addition to P & S's excellent company).

@Hardmy: that would indeed be the ideal solution which I've looked at myself, but it seems that the cost of trucking the boat all the way back and forth is pretty high. Maybe you could bring the boat to the Baltic by road, then cruise to lake Saimaa and leave it there for a winter. There are great places in Savonlinna to store the boat.

Lovely work again K, especially the low light, evening shots, fantastic!

One of your photos of the speed boat race, during the raft-up afterwards, had a small red boat with an immaculate "red band" old-school Mercury outboard. Looked to be a very nicely restored outfit.
Edit: it looks like something Firefly (James) would have restored! :)

I'm keen to see Scubamans photographic interpretation of San Pietro, Carloforte and the surrounding waterways later in the season.

Mmm... R U sure? I would swear that the only triple Fountains built were the 47, also for size reasons.
I really don't think that three big blocks can fit a 35 engine compartment - let alone non-staggered ones, as in your previous pic!

That aside, thanks for the suggestion, we might well take you up on that idea, one day! :D
...though at the moment we are more intrigued by the idea of heading north during winter, also for some northern lights spotting...
We'll talk about all that when you'll come down here! :)

PS: hang on a minute, looking back at your pic of the Fountain engines, I don't know what I was thinking when I saw three engines in it.
It's actually a plain vanilla twin setup, I reckon - in which case, of course I have no problem to believe that she's a 35!
Sorry for the confusion.... :o

Agreed, I also think that K, with his eye for elegant and romantic piccies, will be able to take some beautiful pics of my backyard.
K, have you got an u/w case for your Canon, by chance? If yes, don't leave it at home!
If no, I'll be more than happy to give you my compact waterproof Fuji if you wish, but that's obviously in another league in terms of IQ...

Still swimming in October!......not bad at all.
Mind you being a hardy Fin, it probably won't matter if the water isn't quite tropical :)

Let's see, us wimps are afraid of getting our feet wet without a sauna to fall back to :).

There were a couple of very nicely restored old boats. The theme was a 'historic rally' to commemorate the races back in the 60's and 70's, times when the men were made of steel and boats of wood... But everyone was allowed to take part.

P, alas, I don't have a u/w case for the Canon. Thank you for the offer to lend the Fuji, although looking at your lovely u/w vids and pics you'll make a much better job with it.

Regarding the Fountain. I finally had a bit of time to locate the clips I mentioned. Definitely a 35 :).

Can't beat the throaty growl of a v-eight out the through-transom exhaust.

Adia looking very homely with the cockpit greenery, are they fresh herbs for cooking or shrubbery for aesthetic enhancement?

Indeed, I could feel the growl in the chest standing on the platform.

My wife likes to keep a selection of basil, thyme, mint, etc. at hand for cooking and salads. They seem to thrive in the cockpit. The box often ends on top of the rope locker and I sometimes have to move it in haste but I don't say anything. I'm glad that she feels involved and wishes to make the boat a home away from home.

Well, obviously there's no guarantee to have glorious sunshine and warm water throughout the whole month - even in Jul and Aug for that matter.
But believe it or not, in the last couple of years Oct has possibly been the best month of the whole summer from our viewpoint.
Part of the reason is also that the place is back to its natural wild and unspoilt state, after the crowd of tourists in the peak season.
But the weather was also fantastic - in fact, you must have forgotten this thread of last year, which btw I kind of dedicated to your good self, in my OP... :)

Couldn't agree more on the sound of petrol big blocks with straight exhaust.
I'd dare saying that it's what I'm missing the most of my last lake toy, with her 496 HO... :(

Ah yes, of course.
I noticed both Pinnacle and SM regretted not going to CF in last year's post, but that's soon to be remedied :encouragement:

Yes indeed, compromise is the key to a long term boating future :)
