Has anyone seen this from the Spanish Government?

I have a British pleasure boat licence. Will British licences be recognised after Brexit?


No. Spanish legislation recognises licences from European countries, meaning that any licences issued by the United Kingdom for sailing private pleasure boats will no longer be recognised and their owners should either obtain a Spanish licence or a licence issued by another Member State of the European Union.



(Note: The Government of Spain is studying possible contingency measures for transport issues within the scope of its powers)

Mmm, from what Ive seen, significant may be a tad over the top, but its still plenty in France, Spain and Portugal. The other end of the Med seems more like a German Lake.

I'd say it's a tiny figure in any country compared to regular tourist income. I see posters predicting how the proposed cruising tax will damage the Greek economy when foreign boaters leave. The reality is the tax is aimed at domestic boaters and the income from them will far outweigh any loss from departing foreign boats.
 
The ICC is United Nations document, not EU. However, neither Greece, Spain nor Portugal are signatories to it, which does not stop them from asking to see your 'driving licence'. The statement is very strange and its reality may be dubious.

I agree that the value provided to economies by yachtsmen is negligible.

Me too - I'm just hoping that the number of Brits who spend more than 90 but less than 183 days a year in Spain (inc cruising yachties, holiday home owners and the winter "snowbirds" who take longer term winter lets in Spain) will contribute significantly enough between them to persuade Spain (and other sunny countries) to make a longer term vacation visa easier to obtain than it now is. Sorry for going off thread! I assume that the ICC will be acceptable, and for the price of RYA membership you can get a free ICC (conversion from Day Skipper) and benefit from any advice on Brexit matters issued by them.
 
I'm no expert but I imagine all post brexit visa arrangements will be done on the basis of reciprocity in which case it's probably more a case of what the UK is prepared to allow rather than the other way around.

Yeah, if they want to be stupid we can always put 70% on bmw, audi, vw etc. Should get their attention. A bit of hard ball doesnt go amiss!

Yeah great idea, just don't suggest it too loudly in Oxford, Crewe, or Chichester where all those mini, Bentley and Rolls Royce staff will be out of a job! Not to mention wrecking all those dealerships, service centres,.....

If they're made here, no import duty. Mini workers have nothing to worry about!

I didn't know they were all made in Spain? Surely, there's no benefit of trying to hurt the Germans for the stupidity of the Spanish.

Or to be precise, the hypothetical stupidity SkipperStu imagined a Spaniard might come up with as we all return to the eighteenth century ;)

I reckon the Rayleigh workers in Nottingham will be the ones that will be happiest! - our new economy will be based on; mine the metal, roll the steel, machine to use, and assemble the bike (we wont be able to pay for the fuel for the cars or import the solar cell or battery tech for the new generation transport - and before you say it we dont have the raw materials for much of this, and the SUPPLY CHAIN will be the killer) so like Brexiteers keep saying; ".... it was so much better before the EU...." - maybe, and my Dad rode a bike to work every day back then. We will all need them again.

Interesting then to read the following extract from the Raleigh website:

Unfortunately I think most Raleigh bikes are made in Vietnam these days with some assembly in Germany, the only ones made in Nottingham are the high end carbon fibre jobs, not sure where they get their carbon fibre from though.
