When we bought our Hunter Delta a few years ago it came with a multicoloured asymmetric sail. Depending on conditions we sometimes use it tacked (via an adjustable strop) to the bow roller, other times we pole it out to windward like a spinakker. But is it a cruising chute or an asymmetric spinakker? What is the difference - does size matter, or are they cut differently?

a "Cruising Chute" IS an asymetrical spinnaker ..and thats how the french refer to it even when cruising. depending on what you want to spend, various cuts are available, star cut. radial etc. various cloth weight is available too.

To pole ..or not to pole ..that is the question :)..just go by the conditions !

Usually what is refered to as a cruising chute is a bog standard cut ..available in almost any hideous colour you care to pick ..mine is PINK, BLUE and PURPLE with the boats name on it in scarlet ........try nicking that one you B******s! the last one was a 'Hood' in red white and blue.......
