Cruising chute cost - ballpark figure?

Well, the first quote seems to have been somewhat out of the ordinary - 3.7K incl VAT & snuffer.

Since then, I've received 4 more quotes. All in the region of 2.2-2.5K incl VAT & snuffer.

If there's money left over, once I've settled the yard bill and paid the marina at the end of the month, I'll face the next challenge: how do I sneak this one past the wife?

Not tempted by the carbon fibre pole route then? A quick google (and some size guessing) suggests this should come in around £1500 ish.

I did consider it as you suggested, but decided against it in the end.
1. I already have a perfectly good - if heavy - boom for when we are fully crewed.
2. The carbon boom may be lighter, but there would still be the same amount of foredeck clutter to deal with for just one of me.

The way to sneak it past the wife is not to mention the price. We deal in a currency called 'boat multiples'. On the last boat it was about £350, on this one it is £450 as everything seems to be multiples of this! For a 40'er £550 seems a good figure! So when you say it cost less than 5, it seems like a bargain!
