Hi All, I am buying a second hand cruising chute but i need to buy two blocks for the sheets. The chute is for a Beneteau 423 and I have been told I need 60mm blocks. The problem is that there are so many out there. What do the forum members reccomend? I will only be cruising with two people.

Lewmar Size 2 Snatch Blocks

I use Lewmar Size 2 Snatch Blocks on my Rival 41C. If you don't have snatch blocks it would be worth considering as they are very useful for other applications as well. It also means they can be removed in a straight forward manner when not required on the quarter.

I am with you on the snatch blocks. I use them all over the place. Turning blocks for mooring warps, fair leads for anchors etc.

If you are using pierced toe rails as a securing point, try splicing up a loop of 14mm laid rope, or tie it if you must:). Pop it through the toe rail, tuck it back through itself and you have a good flexible loop, which will not ware the toe rail.

I just route the chute sheets through the aft cleats - gives a nice angle to the winch and no rigging problems. Now someone will be along shortly to tell me why I shoudln't be doing this......:o

Certainly use the aft cleats but put the strop round or through the cleat and still use a snatch block. That way you will not get the inevitable chafe over longer distances.

I saw these on the Jimmy green site the other day, they looked like a good idea for adding snatch blocks to the rail..

I should have admitted that we have a pair of snatch blocks as well. Not sure of the make. Essential items for sorting out sheet leads when you are one point of sailing for a long period.

Best place to buy blocks.

Personally i always use allspars for blocks etc. They have a massive stock of everything. From personal experience i can reccomend te selden ones. They are the same basically as lewmar but a fraction of the price. They can also advise you on fitting them. www.allspars.co.uk
