interesting idea.a fellow formite used his hire car to take a trip into the hinterland and also to have a look at his next port along the coast.I suppose it could be classed as cheeting but gives a great idea of whrer your goung and what to expect...
 
Along the Xxxxxxx I walked the inland route across the marshes at low water .. Still lorra mudsticking later on under sail

Keble Chatterton, who used to own the beautiful yacht 'Charmina' used to sometimes go ahead by taxi or public transport to inspect his next port of call, and also to find good places to eat.

“Vive la différence"

Bit different for me. I want to see a place fresh and new. Not even pictures in a cruising guide.

It is not an easy thing to do though. I love Reeds, all the info but no pictures.

I don't know if others do it, but I used to sail to different sailing areas, mainly in the summer holidays, and the wife would travel by car. We would then sail locally together. Worked out well.
