Cruising Britanny without Marinas

Robin - apart from the Secret Anchorages pilot, what do you recon is the best Pilot for Ushant and down? Mine are now quite old and could do with updating no doubt.

First and foremost buy the 'Votre Livre De Bord' almanac from Bloc Marine, available from every French chandlers but also mail order on line now. This has charts covering the whole area and extensive harbour information with charts AND translated into English, cost is around 24 euros and it even covers the UK south coast in English.

Then the best pilot books are the Pilotes Cotiers ones but you will need a little schoolboy French. These are MUCH better than UK ones as they have information on anchorages not just marinas and restaurants, all the 'Secret Anchorages' are in them. I have even considered buying their volume that covers the Scillies and south coast! We do carry the British pilots including the one from Nigel Featherstone but in practice none are used, sorry Brits but out of date info on restaurants, bike hire and dire warnings not to anchor where 500 French boats think it is fine (maritime influence of HSE /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif?) gets a C minus from me every time.
