Cruise Liner Hits Yachts in Dartmouth

Good sound effects of chain moorings against hull. Lucky if no propeller damage but it looks like engines were stopped as it slide over the moorings and restarted when clear.

Where on earth was the CL going to berth/anchor at Dartmouth?

Right whee it is currently moored I'd think

There were 10 cruise ship visits to Dartmouth planned this year. This was the second visit by Saga Pearl II

Correction. The earlier planned visit by Saga pearl II, in April, was cancelled.

What happened? Was it an especially fast current that caught them out. Or was it just a dogs dinner?

A cruise ship in Dartmouth Harbour crashed into four yachts while being piloted by the harbourmaster, Devon Live has reported.
Fortunately the four leisure boats only suffered 'superficial damage' in this morning's incident, Dart Habour Authority has confirmed.
Eyewitnesses reported seeing boat owners "running from their vessels in pyjamas" as the 539ft cruise ship edged towards the smaller boats.
Dart Harbour Authority said it is currently tracking down the owners of the boats involved and will investigate what can be learnt from the incident. (PlymouthLive)

Exactly. Its got to the point where, thanks to the popularity of cruises, that crusie ships are going to places they should never be. Dartmouth is unsuitable for something that size.

On Tuesday the Dartmoth Chronicle said, "The mayor, Cllr Rob Lyon and mayoress, Di Lyon are expected to meet Saga Pearl II’s captain for an exchange of paint and insurance paperwork to commemorate the visit.

Fixed that for you.

One must just hope the powers that be are not so in love with the idea of liners going up there that they consider the mooring to be a danger to navigation and try to move or delete them.
