Have got a stand at SIBS for the first time.

The show is bustling but there is tumbleweed in cruise hall, a new hall for this year. It's by the Guiness bar.

People stick their head in the door and decide there's nothing boaty in there I think.

Try and make it in and say hello to relieve my boredom!! I'm right down in the far corner :)

I found the Guinness bar by accident while looking for a good view of the departure of Independence of the Seas. I admit, I missed the Cruising hall altogether.

Had to struggle to find the Guinness Bar (bloody place closes promptly and without warning at 18:30 !) and missed the Hall completely.

An aversion to seeing million quid Scumseekers hoisted twenty feet up in the air to impress the pedestrian masses kept me away from that area till the end of the day.

Sorry, I'll catch up on Sunday.

You 3 thought the same as most show visitors it seems.

Your replies have been very helpful though, I hope you don't mind if I show this thread to the show organisers?
My stand is rather amateurish but even so the cost of being at the show is significant for a small company. I have to pay the same as if I was in one of the busy halls and I'm feeling seriously let down.

For those who haven't been yet just come and talk to me I won't try and sell you anything honest!!

Well, after dropping SWMBO and the kids to look round the Navy's latest warship, I scooted round the Cruise Hall, but I didn't see you!! I agree it was empty and I didn't even realise until then that there was a hall tucked away down there.

More ammunition for you, two of us came to the sibs on Sat and we both thought the same as your other replies that the cruise hall was just a sales hall for the cruise companies, all the other halls have sineage under the halls name saying what is in the hall, yours just says cruise hall good luck for the rest of the week regards Ian

That's useful too! When I had a corporate job a team would design the stand at shows. Now like everything I do it myself! I always wondered what they did, marketeers of the world you are forgiven :)

I think I'm hidden in plain view, trying to say to much and thus conveying nothing.

I've done a few new simpler posters this morning thanks to this but for anyone who hasn't been yet look for the 12ft high CopperCoat flag!!

thank you.

It would have to say: crystal, watches, bikes, drills, fish tanks, land in cyprus, expensive models, paintings, home entertainment systems, (non boaty) clothes and amongst all this you might find 3 or 4 stands selling things for boats.

not a very catchy banner :(

however your point is well made, if it just said what it wasn't it would help.

To be fair to the organisers when we all complained about footfall on the first few days they made the queue for the warship go through the hall. This increased the footfall and will no doubt increase the sales of the t shirt sellers but is unlikely to help me much. They tried though.....

I agree - SWMBO wanted to look at a jacket in there so we only wondered into the area because of her insistence - I too thought it was all holiday / charter stuff from the outside.

There was bloke selling some big watches and I was quite impressed at the jacket man's logo machine who did a fairline badge on a hand towel - looked fab and I would suggest a fraction of the cost elsewhere...

I've worked a few exhibitions in the past, and one of the things we did with some sucess is to post somebody at a high traffic point - say near the Sunseekers - with flyers to hand out. This does need to be done with care else the ground will become littered with your flyers, (not good), and the organisers may not permit it anyhow, and you need a spare body....

Liar, passed your way three times you were with customers all three times even spoke to your oppo he said you'd been busy over the weekend and today:D:D

started to rain at 3pm so we went home.

It was slightly better at times today - after I'd sent 1 guy off to paint. Still nothing like the other halls though. Did more than the other 3 days put together but nothing as much as excel where I just hovered and didn't pay for a stand.
As for him saying the weekend was busy? I'm at a loss. Thank for trying to say hello though :)

Maybe it was upbeat sales talk, nobody likes saying business is carp:D

Hi Mark,
Sorry to hear they've hidden you away. That's very bad selling by Sibs and I'm sure that they'll be as annoyed as you. If exhibitors don't get value they won't return and the organisers know this.

You may be due a partial refund or a significant discount for next year or both. If they want to get a new hall off the ground they have to make it value for any exhibitor large or small!

Good luck, I'll try and look in if we get there.

Roger have you moved or are you just visiting? it must be you burgee flying, but no confederate flag.

Yep, we moved a couple of weks ago, so we are officially in Hythe now, seems nice, well run with nice neighbours... again! ;)

The forum flag stays up as it's sheltered behind the radar arch but the rebel flag is only flies whiile under way.

That way the ensign police can't catch us! :D
