Crouch Harbour Authority.... numpty

what a stupid way to do business,
if you send me a signed blank check i will make sure your crouch harbour dues are paid.
you dont need to know when its due or how much

ow... and we wont send you an invoice, statement or receipt....

Once you have registered and paid your dues with them they send you a reminder about March.

I don't quite understand how one would expect the Harbour Authority to know your boat is kept on the river.

Essex Marina informed me about it when I first berthed there in 2007, perhaps Fambridge YH should have done the same but I'm sure they'll tell it's not their responsibility. You may think that the marina should forward details etc but that wouldn't cover the trailer sailors would it or those with private mornings.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not an advocate of the Harbour Authority, far from it, but perhaps one should make necessary enquiries about such things.

The dear lady wife has just reminded me that she had to remind me about the reminder from CHA reminding me to renew our dues this year. Apparently I needed reminding several times

So yes, once you've coughed up once it appears they do send out reminders

did you find out who to pay when you went to the medway or backwater or stour ??? they did know because they stuck the bl..dy sticker on her...
they didnt stick every boat did they...
why should it be our resposibility to find these things out..... they did the right thing letting us know about the tax but the method was wrong.
it cant be that hard to ask the marina who has a berthing agreement and what berths they are on ?? then send them an invoice..... or give the marina the information to forward on to whom every..... job done !!!

well paid the tax 1/10 and still no acknowledgment or placque

also no response from the email i sent as previous post.

We had a permanent berth at Pin Mill on the Orwell, the boatyard included the Ipswich port fees in with the mooring.

We had a permanent berth at Shotley, not sure if they collected anything on behalf of anyone.

We currently have a berth on the tidal Nene at Wisbech (for the 3rd time), they collect the harbour dues with the mooring fees.

Also had visitors berths at several marinas and ports, some of which we know for sure had habour duties, never gone looking to see if we should be paying anyone any additional fees, always relied on the mooring fee being it.

I'm fully with you Steve, when paying a marina for a berth, why would anyone be expected to wander around to see if anyone else wanted some money ? Common sense dictates that if any additional fees are due, the marina will either collect them, or notify you of them. i'd expect the former, if not, i'd expect the marina to give me a form to pay them.

What i wouldn't expect is for some tw4t to come and stick stuff on my boat, he'd better hope i don't meet him if he does. Now is the time to get a quote for a new window, take a pic of the damage, send them a pro-forma invoice for the damage, giving them 7 days to fix it or pay up. Small claims if not.

Hey, please don't get snotty with me, I actually agreed with you, in my first post. The way they've gone about it was wrong, i.e. sticking it on the plastic window. Perhaps you're beef should be with the marina for not informing you, but how did other berth holders find out or those with riverside properties with moorings.

You never mentioned how long you have been on the river not paying your dues, if several years you may be in profit. (About £49 per year)

I am surprised you haven't noticed the plaques before, they are quite distinct. On a motor boat they are displayed on the port side, normally in a window and on sailing craft on the foot of the mast facing forward. They're about 100mm square. On a ski boat the plaque is about a foot square!!!

Dues are normally charge in area where there is a Harbour Authority. In regards to the Stour and Blackwater I don't believe dues are collected, but if I was berthed in these areas I would certainly make sure I knew. As for the Medway I believe dues are paid by leisure craft, berthed in the river, to the port authority, about £50 or so, but not by visiting craft

Good luck with trying to seek compensation from the HA I hope you nail them.
