Crossing to the other side

The decision is yours, and I'm sure you will make the right one with the advice you have got. Do what you think is right at the time.
I have been somewhat surprised by the responses I have received to what I believed were sensible reasoned questions on this forum. I learned very quickly to ignore responses from the smart asses who don't give a sh*t about anyone but themselves. It begs the question - Why they are be part of this? Response to a question about a new all electric boat - Hope you have a toaster!

The good advice outweighs the drivel

Wish you all the best.

Just the point why licencing wont help. He Is (Licenced) Twice!!! Bit worrying though, that he's had a boat for two years, this one all year, but only been out on it for 4 days after loads of training. Think our friend should look at whether he really wants a boat.

Did trouble me that chris? did not mention wind direction, only a maybe 4/5/6 after all the training, which we know about now. And why Web cams, they only tell you about now. Not tomorrow. Now a forcast could be dealt with.

If he'd been going from say Plymouth to CI's I may have reacted different. But across the Solent???

Do you think my response was poor.

Please explain, seriously, I was not trying to put him down but bring home about self sufficiency. Was I wrong?

Remember the time when I was on a buoy in Wales??? cant remember the place.Nevin maybe? Got back to boat, all other boats gone. Tried coast guards, the only boat I got was a big four masted scooner, just leaving. So I asked the captain. (Lady) Whats going on. I was a bit new. Every captain makes there own decisions she said. I thort, well thats a fat lot of good when your the only info I got!!

On the way back to Pwethelli, around Bardey sound. The sea was horific. I was speaking to coast guards whilst mates head and feet were hitting the roof!! The coast guards seemed to know nothing about the overfalls at Bardsey and said the sea was calm /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif We did not have coures at that time, but hoped that the coast guards would help.

Not saying you are wrong. Only that maybe we were all there once!! /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Good info about places like Bardsey Sound in the pilot books and Almanacs. You can read up on when not to try and pass through places like these. The CG were probably right about the general sea conditions, but " sounds" are notorious for channeling current which can be dangerous when the wind is against the tidal stream. You then need to wait until the stream slackens or reverses and goes with the wind. The sea calms down a lot then.

The CG will not wish to advise you on whether to go ahead or not.

Good advice here about suck it and see, and as the wind is from the South, what you get as you leave the IOW should be about as bad as it gets, and will gradually improve as you close on the mainland. As others have said nobody can decide for you, they can only say what THEY would do, and if it were me and the conditions are as forecasted (no guarantees there!) you should have a good trip.
