Lots of ways of getting cheap(er) RF crossings, takes some foresight and planning. Plus keep an eye on the IOW local papers quite often there are discount vouchers for the ferries. Some campsites also offer a free crossing bundled with pitch. No one checks if you use the pitch, the campsite keeps up its allocation - everyones happy.

The most dangerous times, or so they seemed, I've had on a boat in over 30 years have been misshaps in the tender going to the boat when I had a swinging mooring. So glad not to be putt putting across a wind against tide chop when the put putting stops of its own accord.
