Ok, I know that it's considered bad form to "cross-post", but here's my little story of last weekend that started in the Thames Forum, and ends here...

It was a "mission" to the Isle of Wight Festival; now I love music, and festivals are great, but I am just too old for Festi-toilets and Festi-showers, so I felt the calling of Island Harbour Marina and the comfort of my own boat. Trouble is I moor on the Thames, and it is a bl**dy long way to Cowes (although do-able as a brilliant recent blog/post by JE_Cuk (Jeff) proved!!!)

This is day two! Arrived at Lymington just after High tide, not perfect but manageable.

Onto the Public slip

A bit of careful reversing

And All Gold gets her first taste of salt water under my ownership (I'm sure that Mr Fanner has a few more tales to tell of course)

A very natural smile...

And a moment of jubilation

Then off to Yarmouth, first time I've been able to let the donkey really breathe and stretch its legs. Affecianados of the AD41 will see the trademark cloud of smoke in the background (c:

The tranquility of Yarmouth harbour, old hat to all on here, but a huge first for me as skipper

A 6.30 start to catch the tide up towards Cowes was clearly met with much enthusiasm

But the opportunity for the UBIQITOUS WAKE SHOT

Luckily, the camera card registered full at this point, or I would have to finish the story with musical tales in the lounge (c:

I can report that it was great, loved the music, hated the toilets, loved Island Harbour, and have decided to keep the boat on the Coast for a few weeks!

Is your boat a Selcrusier (owned by fjord) but not actually a Fjord. 24 foot in length made about 1969 ish. The galley is under the passengers seat which flips back to reveal a sink or cooker. Typically the 120 volvo engine. They made a 29 (or was it 27) aft cabin version. It may have been called an Ancas Queen.
My Dad had one called Aqua Merril based in Redcliffe on the River Frome leading into Poole harbour.

Not sure if it is a Selcruiser or a "Fjord 27"; she is a 27' er, with a little after cabin; a positive tardis for a 27' boat with two cabins, separate head, large hold, galley in the cockpit giving a huge saloon...

I think she would have been equipped with a V8 petrol originally the engine shot on this website looks like a V-Petrol, but not sure what.

She is a very solid little thing. Perhaps not the most beautiful of boats, although that is in the eye of the beholder, but a very "real" boat!

Where have you picked up the idea that 'cross-post' is a problem? There is no forum etiquette of the sort, anyone can post anywhere they want, though some forums are more appropriate to certain posts and stories than others. Posting the same thing multiple times is frowned upon, but this is certainly great mobo forum material, with great story and pics.

Thanks for that, always a pleasure to see peeps out on their boats enjoying themselves.

I've looked 3 times and still can't make it out.
What's the picture on the side of the door, obvioulsy a man standing up, but what is he doing?

We old river-dogs use our eyes and ears to tell when an engine is running at its happy speed (oo-arrrrr), and anyway a pic of a broken rev counter wouldn't have been that great (c:

Oh, and Growing_Lad, the silhouette of the man ... hmm should I make it the subject of a "what is it" post .... no, not that interesting; most peeps assume that he is cutting grass, but I bought the vehicle from a chap who was selling up his patio-cleaning business so I guess its that!

Great pics rr_123. You were lucky with your 6.30 start. My SWMBO refuses to get out of bed for this sort of thing informing me that if I want to start boating at sparrowsfart I can do it myself /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

AG was originally fitted with a BB70 straight six. Sounded lovely but was thirsty.

I never went to Lymington but when she came to the Thames I did is by water. Three days easy or two days hard, its about 240 miles form Chichester Harbour as a comfy 12 knots or so.

All the original paperwork lists her as a Fjord 27 and as its all Fjord's paperwork that what she is. Fjord acquired Selco and built the Selcruiser 27 as the Fjord 27, sometimes Fjord 27AC, or sy=uch is my tyros grasp of Norwegian from websites about the company.

What speed did you get?

Would like to make the trip by water, may return that way if time allows (I would want to make it a bit more of a holiday).

Also I would have thought that 240 nm must be around 500l of diesel, even at current rates that's a lot more than the half tank in the Landy...! (ok i had to buy the landy and the trailer... but they can go back on eBay when done /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif)

We were cruising at a very comfortable 10-12kn (sog) with about -0.5 to 1 kn of tide, so about 10.5-11 through the water. She had a bit to go, but this seemed to be the engine's "sweet spot", you could feel it needing to gulp gallons more fuel to convert into noise and vibration to go any faster!

500l sounds about right, 45l/hr at full clog but you don't do that too often!

When I did the trip it was Chi-Sov, Sov-Rams and Rams-St Kats. Sovereign Harbour is not much of a holiday spot, I actually quite like Ramsgate.

Of course, if you chop the speed down to 4 knots you would do the trip on one tank of juice, but then you may as well have sails.
