Having worn boat shoes (decent ones) for many, many years I have now been converted to wearing the ubiquitous Crocs as my usual footwear whilst sailing. OK they aint great in the cold but in warmer weather they are great. Grip is good, no smelly feet with the airated built-in air-conditioning!

Can even get colours to match your boat!

Even found a pair of Size 15 for my 14 year old son!!!!

Crocs for me, i love em, as im only a fair weather sailor these days, but i have waterproof boots onboard if it starts getting silly.

Be prepared for a visit from the fashion police.

I wear crocs and deck shoes (not together obviously :p) and crocs are comfy and grippy and great in a dinghy and for jumping off into shallow water and for using in a shower cubicle. Who cares that some people don't like them - they probably haven't tried them.

Size 15 ? He's a bigun. Will he need size 17 when he's 16 ?

I thought I would have the largest feet in the family with Size 12 but Adam (14 yr old son) overtook them when he was 12 years old!

Im hoping his feet have stopped growing as I find it difficult to get Size 12 let alone Size 15 for him!

Agree with the crocs and jumping in the sea etc. Went Kayaking teh other day with Adam and they were perfect footware.

Dont think the Fashion Police are interested in me!

I hate to admit it but I have a pair of upmarket boat crocs with a leather lace up top, bought on sale in the USA for $24, plus a pair of fluorescent pink ordinary ones on sale from SIBS. Also have two cheapo copies I wear around home. I still wear Sperry trainer deck shoes at sea though but the crocs for going ashore by dink.

I resisted for years after SWMBO had them but they really are good.

we have some croc-a-likes bought for a quid a pair in iran and some tatty tennis shoes bought at tk maxx when i feel i need a laceup nonslip. i hate sailing and non sailing fashion police. it's what you do with your life that's important, not what labels you are wearing. 'deck shoes' are also very culturally specific and i think anyone who can't think outside that box is probably a little closed minded.

[Be prepared for a visit from the fashion police].

Even less fashionable but much better were "Saraziennes". They used to sell them in dive shops in the 60's but I haven't seen them in UK for years. Last found in that shoe shop halfway up the hill in Lezardrier.

I always tried to keep a few pairs in reserve because they were a bit susceptable to being sucked off in our Stanpit mud. Now I'm down to two left feet!

I suppose I'll have to convert to crocs!

Anyone know anywhere retailing these in the UK at a discount? Even on ebay the price seems to be £35.

Only ever seen Crocs in the UK discounted at SIBS and even then only the ordinary ones. I bought my boat shoe ones from West Marine in the USA on sale at half price, $24.

Yotties kill another business! Weekend news that the original Crocs maker is about to go under - changing fashions and cheap copies blamed. Why pay £35 when you can look just as ridiculous (and have similar benefits) for £3.99 from Lidl?

The report I read said that the reason was that Crocs were virtually everlasting so once the market was saturated there was no follow up market so end of business.

Think that is what is called putting a gloss on it! What it might mean is that there is no longer a market for enough £35 crocs that don't wear out, but there is a huge new market for £3.99 copies!
