Croatia to Montenegro

We're in our first season sailing from Croatia in an ex-charter non-vat paid boat which is now SSR registered.

Are we likely to have any customs/tax problems if we sail it to Montenegro for a few days next week?

We were going to sail across to Italy for a bit of a change and to avoid the Croatian achorages packed with Italians, but thought Vat status might make things awkward even if we were only visiting.

Motenegro

You shouldn't have any problems in Montenegro as it's not in the EEC.We are based there at the moment,but you do need all the normal paperwork.Also Porto Montenegro is now a port of entry.
The bay of Kotor is fantastic,enjoy it.

The bay of Kotor is where we are heading as we will only be in Montenegro for 3-4 days and it seemed a good place to explore.

We have the rest of the boat docs so will relax abot the vat bit

Just 3 more days at work and it's back out to the blue stuff again.

Be aware that the minimum period for a cruising permit is 1 week and the cost over €100 for a 12m yacht.
Unlike Croatia, you can use any port of entry provided it is your first stop. So straight to Kotor is permissible and it's super.

As Pinetops says it's not the cheapest place to visit. But Kotor town is unmissable. I also enjoyed Hercegovina for one night, backed up the wall, they discourage anchoring.
You can visit Budva (with earplugs). And there's a nice anchorage between Budva and Kotor too, the name may come to me! Bigova I believe.
It's very convenient to check out of Croatia at Cavtat.

Thanks for the warning about the cruising permit.

I've obviously made the wrong assumptions about clearing out of Croatia. I was planning to go to customs up in Kremik near Sibenik, then do a long sail down to Montenegro in one go. Do I have to clear Customs near the Montegran border, e.g. Dubrovnik?

You can clear out wherever you want,but dont stop or anchor in that country again.
