Crinan Hotel

Has been some time since I was last there, are they still as expensive and lacking customer care? Planning trip for two weeks time, to stay the night or not is the question.

Was last there a couple of years back. If its still run by the same people then i would
give it a wide berth.

The oldest ever thread resurrection? Maybe. Anyway, we had a jolly good supper in the seafood bar at the Crinan Hotel last night, full marks to the chef. Cullen Skink was fabulous, then fish and chips equally as good. Not outrageously expensive either, we shall certainly return.

Indeed it is a good place and when we are in the area we pop in for a meal. Never disappointed. Also have stayed in the hotel, and it was a good experience. It is a family owned hotel, the husband died some time ago and the wife now runs it. She is of that Scottish style, doesn't suffer fools, business like. It is frequently busy so worth booking ahead.

They own a classic, wooden motor yacht, an Ex herring boat, MV Sgarbh, which is available for skippered charters, day trips. It is a beautiful boat, and always lovely to see her pottering about.

The Crinan Hotel is a magnificently eccentric hotel ... Lock 16 our famous Seafood restaurant which has won many accolades including best Seafood Restaurant in the UK, is open during the summer for parties of 6 or more for dinner and for private parties at anytime between May and September.

The above, opening statement on their landing page, sums it up perfectly.

Thanks for the recommendation. We enjoyed dinner there last night including one too many desserts, both sounded good so why choose?
Berthing in the canal basin couldn't be closer to the restaurant and we saw the sea otter outside the lock gates on the way.
