Thought I might pass this on:-

'At some point between Monday 28th and Wednesday 30th January 2013 at the Marina, Wharf Lane in Bourne End someone has cut the padlock and stolen the motor off a boat moored up there.

The local neighbourhood team are working with the Marina’s on the Thames in an attempt to improve security and identify offenders from CCTV. The team would remind boat owners not to leave valuables on board and where possible remove outboard motors and fuel tanks from their boats. Also ensure that all of your removable items are property marked with your postcode and that you keep a record of your serial numbers.

There have recently been in the region of 60 thefts of this type between Teddington and Bourne End, so clearly is an increasing problem being carried out by organised criminals. We are working to try and identify these offenders and would ask that boat owners are vigilant to people selling outboards and pass information to the police on 101 or to Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111, with any information'.

remove outboards from your boat, great advice from the team that, not the quickest thing to do, takes the shine off an hour on the river after work.

its rife lots of outboards are finding there way overseas

an outboard security padlock helps (essential for some insurance companies to cover the outboard) although if they want it they tend to cut the transom out and take the lot.
