definitely without a silent 'S'!

Having recently found myself happily on my own again, but boatless, where do I look for people who want crew members (absolutely NOT galley slaves - got caught with that one). I have far too many years' sailing time, inc boat owning, live near the East Coast and not too far from the South Coast. Willing to travel. Happy to pay own way, but can't pay the owner's expenses, too!

I have looked at crewseekers and crewsearcher, but would like other suggestions. And probably not looking to sail much until next year, although weekends are a possibility. I work part time, and I'm currently planting up the garden, feeding the livestock etc, which is why next year is the choice.

I'm pretty easy going - just wouldn't mind a good old sail from time to time!

suse, kind of in the same boat (or should that be NOT in the boat) myself.

My reasons are somewhat different, in terms of need to build miles, but I have found begging friends with boats is one way. I am however busy the next few weekends lending a hand hauling out and scraping hulls (..It's a learning experience I tell myself)

However tips that the kind members here have given me is to find a local club/marina and put up a notice. Especially for next season. You will find a few that are dropping the boat back into the water that need to iron out the creases before the SWMBO will climb aboard. After that it is relationship building, but that's dead easy! Most are generally good natured and as long as you are willing to muck in, pay your share, and bring a decent bottle of something, more than happy to see another crew member with a SMILE!

Oh and as an IT blah blah blah...give the odd IT lesson to kids, SWMBO, or skipper.

As Magic says, a notice in a local yacht club worked for me. I now regularly crew on a local yacht for weekend races, etc. Also been sailing with a few fellow forumites too. I remember one yacht club I visited had a book in the reception area specifically for crewing wanted / offered.
