A chicken/egg situation. An Albert Strange classic is for sale in the Florida Keys. She needs to be out of the heat and back in UK where she will fare a lot better. If I could demonstrate that, subject to survey & with the necessary safety equipment, she could be got back here at low cost, I might be able to get a potential new owner interested. (I am Sec of the Albert Strange Association). She's a 40ft yawl, currently bmdn (was gaff). Lived aboard and sailed little for some years now. More details of the boat here

Perhaps as a first step you could get her up to the mouth of the Potomac where marina and yard costs are so much cheaper (less than $100 per month) and the climate kinder while you prepare her for the transat. Just looking at the picture I would say you will have quite a lot of work to do before she's ready for a trans-at crossing

Lovely boat and it would be great to save her. The trip from the Keys to the Chesapeake to take up Lizzie_B's suggestion sounds like a great idea to me. Is it really easier to find a crew and sail her back than have her shipped?
Good luck

Maybe a case of an 18K GBP quote to ship it back to the UK (just been quoted that on a 40ftr) and not the ease of shipping. You can do a lot of preparation on that sort of loot, as well as paying a crew and even possibly save a bob or two.

Not taking the pish, where did you get your quote from? Could you let me have contact details please. I have contacted a number of firms and they are all in double figure from the East coast to Southampton. I came to the conclusion that spending some time in the US to prep a vessel and then do the delivery myself would turn a bob or two even counting the loss of earnings while I did it. cheers, John

I googled 'boat shipping' and contacted autoshippers.co.uk. Garish website but seemed to know what they were talking about when I called them. +44 117 9828123
