Crew

On the boat that you own (no courses or charterers), what crew do you usually have?

I'm curious what level of crew you all have when sailing on your boat (for boat owners only please). Please choose the one which fits you most of the time.

Choices are too limited.
I mainly sail alone but sometimes with a friend, I've never sailed with a "full crew" what ever that may be!
Wife very seldom sails these days.

If you mainly sail alone then choose solo, it's limited on purpose because what you do most of the time must fit into alone, with another, or with a crew/ Appologies if your "other" isn't your partner I didn't think of that! :D

Where's the "whoever I can find" button.

Which means anything from solo to a couple of mates, all depends who is available when I am and when the weather is nice, usually at very short notice.

What do you do most often? I thought I had worded it carefully enough to avoid that sort of confusion but clearly not :D

It's a classic beginnr's error in questionnaire design, to set up a number of closed options without first establishing, through qualitative data, what the options should be. My co owners and I sail our boat with anything from two to five aboard. 'Full' crew would be four or five, but good passages are easily done with fewer.

So there! :p

I occasionally sail by myself.

I often sail with my wife.

We often have a friend or friends with us.

We sometimes have our (grown up) children with us.

I often sail with some friends and without my wife.

I often sail on Sailing School boats with lots of crew. (What's a 'full crew' please?)

I am often a passenger on a sailing boat with lots of crew when I am examining the skipper.

A couple of weeks ago I sailed for two weeks with a crew of 12 plus a mate (14 on board altogether but it was a fairly large boat.)

I can't decide which box I should tick.

I sometimes sail solo
Sometimes with just the Misses
Sometimes with Just the kids.
Sometimes the whole Fan Damilly
Sometimes with friends.
Sometimes just me and the dog.

My old boat was small and the whole family was a very full crew. I've only just acquired a bigger boat now my kids are bigger and no longer kids so the most likely crew will be me and the dog, possibly the missus. More when I can persuade them.

Always me, normally SWMBO, sometimes my daughter, then there is anyone else stupid enough to come along!

Any volunteers? PM me...

Actually as I said above my mistake was not to describe option two as "one other". Everything else I'm happy with and it's my poll so if you don't like it then I don't mind. I'm not a beginner at polls by the way, the closed nature of this was fully intentional.

You just need to determine whether on your boat you sail more often alone, with one other, or with more than one other. Appologies for the ambiguous wording on the answers.

Still don't know what you're after. Does "usually" refer to frequency or length of time? How does one 2-day single handed passage compare with a week of fully crewed racing of 3 hours a day? And what is fully crewed - 6 for heavy weather day-racing or 3 for comfortable cruising?
I'm with Ken on this one (not a position I often find myself in) - yer survey's pants!

Then please feel free not to answer. I don't actually need your opinion and if you don't understand the word "usually" then you'd probably get the answer wrong anyway!
