I am arranging crew for the delivery of an Outremer 55ft Catamaran from Faro to Kiel in the Baltic, via the Kiel Canal. I believe that the trip will take between 2 and 3 weeks.
The departure date from Faro will be about 4th August 2010. I am joining the boat in the Balaerics on Wednesday.
All crew member must be willing to stand a watch, take turns cooking, washing up, boat maintenance etc.
Knowledge of the Collision Regulations (Rules of the Road) on arrival is compulsory.
A contribution towards provisioning etc will be required.
If you are available and the trip appeals to you, please come back to me.
Details of the boat are available on

Brendan

Hello Brendan is the going rate still £150 per week?

Regards

David

So he gets paid for the job, makes about £15 a day out of each crew member - sound like the boat needs to be in Code and insured for paying crew - more like a charter boat. A few legal issues here maybe......... and does the skipper have professional liability insurance?

No David,
This was a free trip, no contribution requested from any of the crew.

I am fully crewed and on route, so thank you all for your interest.

Some folk are sailing in the sun and some are at home complaining.

Fair winds and following seas to all.

Brendan

Not what you wrote earleir in 1st post.....

A contribution towards provisioning etc will be required.

Never mind, life's too short

Hmmmm!!!

"Commercial yachtmaster (RYA + DTI)"
Could anyone explain the difference to me please.
I would also be interested to know how long the DTI have been awarding yachtmaster tickets. Had a quick look on the DTI.gov website but nothing to be found ! (even tried the search thingy) ???
Any info would be greatly appreciated.

"Commercial yachtmaster (RYA + DTI)"
Could anyone explain the difference to me please. . . . . .

I will explain the difference to you.

When it states RYA qualified, it refers to a sailing qualification, Yachtmaster Day-Skipper, Competent Crew, etc.

When it says DTI, it refers to a radio qualification. ie VHF or LRC. It is an old expression from an earlier time and probably should now be Ofcom certified. :)

I may be wrong..BUT i think the yachtmaster is as is describes. This however is not a commercial ticket. It can be upgraded to commercial (the dti) by passing a medical and a sea survival course. The medical must be retaken at set periods. You could operate a ferry only if your ym offshore was commercially endorsed .

Anyway,it`s not the bit of paper it`s the attitude, and a relatively inexperienced skipper can`t go too far wrong by following the passage planning suggestions which are even printed in Reed`s.
On the other hand, even being extra super master time lord of the starship enterprise USS Sarah Palin carrier group (commercial) doesn`t make you capable of drawing a line on the chart which don`t put me through the middle of Thanet wind farm does it BRENDAN?
Outremer55 goes like a robber`s dog by the way,we had one hull out of the water all night while you were asleep 15 knots ha ha Jerry. Ha ha in general thanks for reminding me that trip was a laugh, top crew, anyone in Shetland reading this?
