I was just given a lovely lovely little book called "Salt Marsh & Mud a Year's Sailing in the Thames Estuary" by Nick Ardley.

Gave me a warm and fuzzy feeling when reading - highly recommended. Been breaking out in big grins.

Anyway - it reminded me of the Creek Crawlers Club - any progression on an itinerary for this?

Slight spanner in the works on our side - Kioni is about to be sold, this Sunday in fact.

However a fleet reserve vessel is being brought over from her station overseas. She draws 4' 3" - does this disqualify her from the Club?

Note she is particularly heavy and has a 56HP engine, so I feel she is still capable of operating in 3ft of east coast water simply by driving a channel through the mud, possibly to the benefit of following craft. She could probably do this indefinitely, however should she become firmly embedded the hospitality on offer to all would be top notch.

Please let me know if this is an asset the Club would value.
 
No sign of T_S (Dave) since November last year. Don't know what his plans are.

However, I can sell you tickets to a thrilling ride round Potton Island, followed by a peaceful evening at anchor, probably aground.

Can you fill all your tanks and drop down on your lines by 3 or 4 inches? If so I'm following Kioni!
 
Just spoke to TS (Dave); he's very busy rebuilding the Island Yacht Club (at Canvey) web's site, the new one to go live in a few weeks. His boat is still out the water, but planning a trip to Conyer Creek in near future. He reminds all a warm welcome to any sailing craft visiting the club at Canvey.

Put us down for it. 2'6" draft and two hulls to get stuck in the mud.

Principle exploit is navigating to Snape, we only ran aground 7 times and knocked over one withy so are we a bit too good for the club?
 
Hi everyone, sorry for the big absence had loads of things going on over winter.

Hopefully after all the work thats been done to her, TP should be launched next weekend if all goes to plan.

Good to see people still on here wanting to get muddy and do some ditch crawling :D

Plenty of banter between a few of us at the IYC who are not bothering too much with the club cruises this year and want to see more of the local sights, including a visit for swilling down ale and nosh at the Plough & Sail.

Been speaking to Nick Ardley who would very much like to meet fellow creek crawlers should we organise a cruise.

There is talk of a potter to Conyer creek next week but until I'm afloat I'm not committing to it.

I would suggest now its all down to what weekends, where you would like to go and of course tides and weather for those that are interested.

Slightly OT, but a great documentary about Canvey & Dr Feelgood on BBC 4 last night ("Oil City Confidential"), showing many of the creeks/boatyards/wrecka around the Benfleet side & a lot of the interviews by Holehaven & The Lobster Smack.

So reckon we would fit up a few creeks. We find the cast iron keels make good ploughshares and can get on our swinging mooring with 2'6" showing on the gauge (full throttle and a good run up)!

It would be a great confidence builder for us to mess about with our 'betters', so would love to have a go and come out to play with the big boys.

Anyone fancy ferrying a 40kgm guide dog ashore for 'walkies'? Black bags included. (only kidding)
 
Wedding weekend

So providing where back on the water could try the Walton backwaters for the above extended break, were based in the crouch, will post more thoughts as I think of them:)
