Had planned to go to Flushing on my little trip away but as my ETA was 0100 not able to go into the small marina and didn't want the hassle of locking in to the other one. Instead I went to Breskens.

Easy approach, lots of space to drop sail, rig fenders etc and a vacant pontoon for arrivals with an intercom to HM. Not surprisingly no one there at 0100 so I stopped on the arrival pontoon for the night. About 0900 I went to see the HM to ask where I should go. As I was only staying to about 2pm (to take the tide to Ostend) he said stay on the reception pontoon.

I got my wallet out to pay and he said NO CHARGE for 12 hours as it was a 'short stay'!! Bargain!!

Its been over 15 years since I visited Breskens but your story has just reminded me.Must put it on my list of places to go.

I've always enjoyed my visits to Breskens. It's easy to access when arriving late at night or tired and convenient if a night time departure is required.
The town is pleasant, not spectacular, and the shops are handy.
The club is friendly and serves good food, and there are some excellent restaurants as long as you want sea food.
It's the only place we have been checked by the border police (well, blokes in uniform with guns, we didn't ask who they were), but I think they just wanted a sit down, a chat and a free coffee.
Is the loaves and fishes mural still there?
