The magnetic strip on my credit cards are no longer able to be read after exposure to seawater. Has anyone else experienced this? Is there such a thing as heavy duty cards?
Mine used to go for a swim occassionaly and the mag stripe never seemed to fail for that reason. And its difficult to see why salt water would make it fail. I wonder if it is the "chip" for chip and pin - there are electical contacts etc to get damaged. I have one card (not been in the sea) that has some corrosion on/around the contacts - it still seams to work though.
Yes, got them wet in sea water, did not work had to be repaced. But that was a few years back, has not happened since and thay been back for a swim at it were.
