National Maritime Museum in Fakmouth. The remote controlled sailling yachts are FANTASTIC-propelled by wind. You can moor outside, cafe is ecellent value and great food!Suhali is also on mooring there. In Plymouth The Barbican is a fun place to hang out- the kids may even like it! Art galleries, fish and chips etc all side by side- glass blowing in the old fish market.
Anchor round at Cawsand- just west of Plymouth- if the weather is fine its a good place to swim ashore.
Head up the river to Truro-Tesco has a customer mooring outside! Only possible if the tides are right!Past Mylor- nice pub, thatched on the front but I can't remember the name!
Hope the sun shines for you!

Don't let the cream tarts in Union Street Plymouth give your young ladies any ideas!
National Aquarium in Plymouth is good as most kids these days seem to have a thing about sharks.
If the Sun shines again (much wet today!) anchor off the beach at Polkerris in St Austel Bay, SSE of Par. Spend the night in Fowey. The Gallants SC is usually very welcoming.
Up the Tamar - pontoons just N of the Bridges for visitors to Saltash and the Sailing Club is open most nights except Mondays. Follow the flood as far as you want to go, but there are moorings off Cotehele Quay or if the tide serves you can lie alongside by the hand crane. Small Maritime Museum on the Quay of this beautiful National Trust property. No fees for berthing! Super ice creams! Oggies, too. An Endurance 37 with 6'2" draft lay alongside and dried out a couple of weeks ago - no problems.
If you are still about Plymouth on the 1st of August there is the Classic Boat Rally but I suggest you stay clear of Plymouth on the 23rd July when HMQ is presenting new colours to the Royal Navy aboard HMS Ocean in the Sound.
If earlier posts here are anything to go by you won't be calling in to Salcombe, but in case you do the late lamented JDS founded a very good Maritime Museum for kids.
Welcome to the Westcountry and in particular to Kernow. Have a good time.

"Nice pub with thatched roof near Mylor" is The Pandora Inn at Restroguet. You can tie up alongside of quay at hightide.
There's also Eden Project at St Austell, easy to get to from Fowey.
Plenty of anchorages up the Fal estuary.
Ocean Bowls at Falmouth.
Don't forget the Helford Passage! It's beautiful down there with loads of anchorage in front of Durgan beach. Seal Sanctuary at Gweek, top of the Helford.
Quayside pub and the Chainlocker are good grub pubs on Falmouth waterfront. The Boathouse pub has lovely views over Falmouth harbour and very nice food.
St. Mawes is quaint, several good pubs, beaches, castle and, of course, we are moored there so come and say hello if you get this far....
Will you be here for Falmouth Regatta Week, it's at the beginning of August?? There's a wonderful atmosphere and a great sight.
p.s. should I get a job as Falmouth's promotions officer!!

Clotted Cream & Car Parks

Just got back from Cornwall(visited by car). Sunday evening, visited Fowey. Couldn't find a parking space and ended up with a parking ticket at 10pm when I parked in the car park near the ferry and nipped back into town for some change for the meter.*&%$+£"@!!!. DO NOT eat in the chinese restuarant!! Food crap and expensive crap at that. We were staying at the Innis Fly Fishery near to the Eden Project. We first visited the project in 2001 and were interested to see how it had progressed. I have to say, it is now superb. Had 2 teenage girls with us and they loved it. Ate out in Mevagissey. Harbour looks a bit untidy but OK. Truro was good. Marina & clubhouse very busy. Enjoyed a trip to St. Michael mount near Penzance. Nice little harbour, superb castle. Found a terrific and almost deserted beach with a smashing clifftop theatre near Lands End. Took the girls to Polzeath & Newquay beaches to oggle the surfer dudes. They loved it. Unfortunately on the wrong side for you. Piy it wasn't this week Jimi as the Culdrose Air show was worth a visit although the weather turned a bit manky on Wednesday. Last Sunday afternoon in Cheddar Gorge was 36 deg.

Have a good holiday Jimi.

Plymouth has the National Marine Aquarium, well worth a visit, easy walk from QAB marina. Just next door is the Barbican with Capn Jaspers, a very popular fast food stall with mega sized portions at reasonable prices. At the back of QAB is a good new shopping complex with a multi screen cinema.

Already mentioned are Cawsand and Kingsand, good beaches. Also round Rame Head is Whitsand Bay with more good beaches. Polperro is a pleasant little village, but not much room to manouevre. As you7 enter into Falmouth there's a small lighthouse to starboard just before St Mawes , good beaches just at the bottom of the cliffs.

Plymouth has its regatta the weekend you get there, 26/27 July so there should also be lots going on.

Take them up towards Truro and stop at Tolverne Cottage for tea and cakes, it's right by the large ships moored up past King Harry Ferry. If you moor at the Town marina it's a very short walk into town with good showers etc. You will also almost certainly see one of the largest seals around, he seems to appear most evenings looking for food from the nearby fishing boats.

Salcombe has some of the best beaches in the country, there's a steam railway from Dartmouth to Torbay, Brixham has a replica of the Golden Hind, fish and chips from Ziggys just across the road. There's also a brand new aviary on Torquay sea front, opened last week, can't miss it with huge nets.

Loads more, suggest you get a copy of Mark Fishwicks West Country Cruising. Have fun.........................

Re: Stuff tha\'

Well the boats down in Plymouth now ..excellent weekend! Left Hythe 4:00pm picked up Fatipa in Lymington at 19:00 ish. Raised the new genoa again and it fell off .. sorted it out with the spinnaker halyard cos the rooler reefing one was suck at the top of the mast. Went to Studland to wait for favourable tide.. got there 10ish ... up mast in dark to retreive genoa halyard, could'nt as jammed solid and a bluidy swell started rolling in .. glad to get down in one piece. Put up with the rolling until 2am when enough was enough and decided to get on with it . Eventually got the genoa up, again with spinnie halyard and had cracking sail in F4, just clipping St Aldem's Head race. Crossing Lyme Bay on a reach we encountered a large pod of dolphins. Other crew member (Not Fatipa) was feeling a bit rough so we went into Dartmouth .. had to stooge around until 17:00 to get berth on Town Quay. Left about 7:30ish next morning for Plymouth.. Just me and Fatipa now as the third man wanted to spy out the bus route from Dartmouth to Plymouth .. muttered something about F6 ... Whilst in Dartmouth we had sort of sorted the roller reefing .. so off we went .. motor sailed past start point, bit lumpy and lots of pots. Got onto a fine reach near the entrance to Salcombe, passed JJ around about there going in the opposite direction. Then had an amazing beam reach to Plymouth .. very large swell and 19 to 20 knots of wind. Cracking weekend's sailing and looking forward to spending a fortnight down there!
