Cranchi Zaffiro 34,
If any one has or does own one of these, or has skippered one I would like to hear about it, good and bad points. It is for an article in MBY on buying one.

Not owned one but been on a couple. Great value for money and good accommodation for a 37' boat. Not the greatest fit and finish but good enough. Good sea keeping and a sociable cockpit.

Only negatives is the creamy colour and the bolt on bathing platform neither of which would stop me buying one. In fact I nearly did a few years ago but bought current boat instead.

GC1 would be a good person to ask, as his Zaffiro 34 gets more use than most. Maybe if Greg talks to him very nicely, he might forgive IPC all their sins /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Agreed Geoff, GC1 is the best person to ask, he has been out on long passages in all sorts of conditions.

its a shame he has not been allowed to post details of his adventures.

I have never herd GC1 complain or hold a grudge, I dont think he is that type, he will almost certainly share his experiences if asked.

I brought my Cranchi Pelican 32 from new 2 years ago...happy to tell you of my experiences if you want. Some good some bad. PM me if interested

Only a quick go in Peters boat, would turn on a sixpence and very stable ride, certainly appear to have got the hull right.

I owned a 2000 model for 3 years although sold it last October. You may or maynot recall a feature in MBM ''chasing the winter sun'' 2001 which featured my boat (before i bought it) setting off from poole to spain, i think it won the waypoint 2001 competition.
anyway my view for what its worth having done a fair few hours with a black lab, 5 year old and girlfriends is it offers fantastic value for money (pound for pound), excellent sea keeping in all whethers, i got caught in f7 and had no issues what so ever.

I never had any mechanical problems and the up-keep and maintenance was reasonable for the size (38ft), it averaged 3ltrs mile which is c200 miles on a tank 575ltrs.

the interior maynot be to everybodies taste but with regards space storage etc.... it takes some beating.

The biggest down side is the space in the engine bay with the KAD 43's, if your waistine is +34'' you'd struggle to get around and carry out simple maitenence jobs. However, if you have the d4's there shouldnt be an issue.

I think people are put off because they dont really know the brand however the build qaulity in my opinion is far better than others in its class.

if i was considering buying another I would go for the post 2003 with updated interior.

Poor old Pete. Three girls in the household now. He doesn't stand a chance.

Hi Guys, I have just purchased a 2004 Cranchi 34, to be honest the boat is in mint condition and only needs a few minor tweaks. As the surveyor mentioned, having this on the Thames is like having a Ferrari in C. London. However we will move her to the south coast so we can open up all 460 horses!
Two quick questions, you mention above the 'cream' gellcoat, do you know what colour works for doing minor repairs. Also if you rev port engine beyond 1500 rpm it squeals a bit and the tachometer drops back to idle. Have looked at drive belts but all seem new and tight?
Cheers,

Very popular boat in my (ex) marina in Empuriabrava, Costa Brava and have been invited for drinks on several. Seems a similar size to my Sealine S37 but very very basic in comparison, raw fibreglass behind the cupboard doors, large gaps of filler etc. This may depend on year of course, things do get better.
However, many happy owners out there and very sellable in the Med.

There is a lower belt which is easy to miss. Are you sure you have tested them all.
The V on a belt can wear so there is no side grip although they may be tight.
My guess is one of the above.

Thanks, will test belts further tomorrow. It was mentioned above that slightly larger owners find it hard to access the engine bay. I can confirm this is true! Will try again before I get the engineer on it!

I have a 1997 and have done most of the basic maintenance on her since purchasing last year. Your charger belt is definitely due for replacement if it's original. It can be missing large patches of ribbing.
