I am about to insure my yacht and have been gathering quotations, CraftInsure the web based insurance company have come out as being a lot cheaper than anyone else. My initial reaction was suspicion, the deal can't be that good there must be something wrong etc

I have read the previous postings regarding craftinsure in the forum and there doesn't appear to be anything to put me off but nobody has talked about their experiences of making a claim.

Has anybody made a claim through CraftInsure and how did it go?

Hi,

I use Craftinsure to insure my boat and have not had any problems with them... but i have never claimed from them either - so may not be the best one to ask!

If you send me a PM with your home work emaill address i will send you a copy of my policy in .pdf format for you to have a quick look at.

They are owned by Nav & Gen - so they must have access to sufficient funds to underwrite this with no trouble?

Cheers,

Craig.

Re: Navigators & General

Are, in turn, part of Zurich Group.

Obviously an attempt to enjoy both worlds - direct and agency.

Nav & Gen have a reasonable reputation - though the stockmarket returns have of late made them very pernickety about claims, but that's in common with ALL classes of insurance.

Don\'t think they are owned by Nav&Gen...

I seem to remember seeing something once that CraftInsure is owned by a German company, possibly an insurance broker.

The only connection with Nav&Gen is that CraftInsure describe themselves as "underwriting agents" for Nav&Gen.

Maybe there are some insurance people reading this board who can tell us whether this means that CraftInsure policies are actually Nav&Gen policies - if they are, many people might be happier about taking advantage of the low online premiums.

Try GJW

On 0151 473 8000, I will be going with them in a few weeks time, very easy to talk to and get answers, very competitive and I was recommended to them by a couple of different people.

Relax, life is just a game.

ReCraft insure

Also had quote approx two thirds that quoted by my existing insurer.

Oooh look its still not dark and its nearly 5pm

See PBO Feedback issue 432 (December) Page 39. Email from Roger Petch who certainly appears to be satisfied with the policy and the claims procedure.
If you haven't got the mag and would like to read the letter, let me know and I'll email it to you.

CraftInsure ownership...

CraftInsure is privately owned, and is a trading title of Wurtt UK Ltd. I believe that Wurtt is a German insurer or broker.

Re: KnoxJohnson 25% more

Also found GJW a lot cheaper than Knox-Johnston for the same cover. (I would have been unlikely to renew with Knox-Johnston even if they had been cheaper due to problems with claiming off our insurance policy for nonfault accidents last year)

Having fallen out with Pantaenius over their handling of a claim that has left me £K's out of pocket have been going round the rest. Boat is 20 years old this summer, so all want a survey. GJW was £200 more than Nav and Gen who were less than Pantaenius when you take into account no claims bonus that I now don't have. All others seem to want sight of survey before I get a quote in writing. The survey was in Barcelona, took under four hours and cost £400. Have to add a third of that to your anual pemium if boating is 20 years old...industry standard now and liable to get worse.
