Thinking about cradles. I am interested to know who owns one for their boat, or do you rent it from the yard, and how much etc in use and in summer storage.

Maybe it should be length based, i.e. how much to rent a cradle per foot per month, and how much to crane per foot as obviously some charges increases with size of vessel.

Clyde Marina don't charge anything for the use of their very sturdy cradles.

"Owned by yard" free use

Erm, more like "owned by yard, rented out as an extra". Well, it is a big cradle..

Nope...My annual charges of £1700 for a swinger at West Mersea and winter storage include the cradle...

Bradwell have starting charging this year. Cradles used to be free on a first come basis but they have bought new cradles and it's now going to be £100 for the use of their cradle or £50 to store your own over the summer. As mine demounts to a very small pile of bits we shall have words but it is blinking heavy and I don't really want to take it away. Catch 22.

Ever the way I suppose - 5% increase in berthing plus new extras. Won't stop me being there so bluff well called Bradwell /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Whilst I ticked the box that I own a cradle, I do, but its no longer in my possession. Stored, dismantled in the MDL yard, it disappeared. MDL have generously, whilst not accepting responsibility, agreed to let me have the use of one of their cradles FOC as long as the boat is there.

An example of the good customer service you get from those perceived as money grabbers.

I fitted legs and flogged the cradle, which gave me £250 towards the cost of the legs. Done this on all of the larger boats I have owned. The legs are stowed on board, and it is one less charge they can nail you for. Blinkin expensive tho, heigh ho.
