My Lavac ZENITH porcelain bowl has broken. (see my "wanted" thread). They have long been discontinued: it looks as if I will have to replace it with the "Popular" model, unless I can source a second hand one. Does anyone know if the Zenith base fits the Popular bowl? It would mean not having to drill new holes...

Although the Zenith has been discontinued spare were still available.
It would be wise, before doing anything drastic, to be absolutely sure that it is not possible to obtain a new bowl if you have not already done so.

Your question about the popular bowl and the zenith base I think will be answered if you study the manual on BLT website. ( the two bases seems to be the same part no.)

BUT check that the "new" popular is still the same as the old popular

Even new holes will be no big deal if the new base hides the old holes.

A repalcement, new or secondhand, Zenith bowl will mean you can reuse the present seat and lid.

I have a spare Zenith bowl (used) which I bought on eBay a year or so ago.

If you are interested PM me.

This must be one of the few places on earth - well, in the western world anyway - where there is serious interest in a USED toilet bowl...

.. & as the proud owner of a couple of old Lavacs, I'm interested in the outcome.

You should be a proud owner; the Lavac is a masterpiece of simplicity, containing only the parts needed to wheech the toleys out of the seacock; no frippery, no valves to twiddle, just a bloody great pump and some rubber seals. A Baby Blake has a certain elegance, but as an engineer I look at the Lavac as a wonderful bit of functional design.

i have just changed to the popular £205 from force 4
the zenith had a small crack in the £99 lid
i sold the whole zenith + pump on ebay for about £70.
so i upgraded for approx £135 much cheaper than a seat + lid + seals & i got a new pump too

Shrug. I rebuilt my bathroom, and put the old bath, toilet, sink etc on Freecycle. The next day a nice young couple came round to inspect the khazi on my driveway, and took it away with them.

I told them the brown buildup in the U-bend was just limescale, but I don't really know :)

When we took delivery of our Rival, the wife cleaned her from top to bottom. In her drive for cleanliness, not wanting to use other peoples thrones, she disposed of the old seats and lids, from not one but two, Zeniths.

I nearly died at the price for replacements. However, by shopping around I managed to obtain all the bits for the price of one set, it was still expensive. The popular is too small, I find, when used to the Zenith's dimensions, but I could get used to it, should this expense ever be faced again!

Taylors Lavac stated that the moulds for the Zenith bowl got broken in transit from the far East to the UK. Apparently the far East manufacturer could not make the top edge flat enough for the seat seal to work effectively.
