This relates to my oil tank at home, but it should apply to boats ...

I just noticed a 70mm split in my plastic fuel tank; it seems to have bulged out in the middle. Of course, the tank is nearly full (2500 litres) and the split is in the middle. Fuel was dripping out, and I figured it wasn't going to get slower.

I phoned the man who fitted it many years ago, he is coming tomorrow. In the meantime, he told me to soak a bar of soap in hot water for a few minutes, and then rub it into the crack. The drip stopped straight away, and I've now been able to cover it with a coat of mastic, this wasn't possible before I stopped the flow.
