My grandfather was caught in a monster of a storm in his yacht in Brest soon after the war. They had a CQR out and they were the only boat in the harbour that didn't drag.
There are so many variables arent there yer Grandad could have hooked a convenient rock ledge. Or it could just be my abysmal seamanship that leads me into problems. I survived very well on a CQR in a fishing port in a storm in Tenerife until next day I discovered I was hanging on to a mooring line.
At least the Yachting monthly comparison has tried to narrow the variables.
Tried yes. But it doesn't say a lot for the quality of the test when they failed to get a result with the most widely used anchor of the last 100 odd years.
