Still not too cheap but nice having an anchor that works pretty much first time every time. ;)

You sure that deal would work in Jersey ? Looked to me that it was the US importer that was offering the deal to customers buying in the US. That said the Spade dealer in Jersey is just above the waiting pontoon at the St Helier Marina, though its best to call ahead as they are not often in the shop :)

Yes, definitely works in Jersey. Can't find the email now but it was from alex at spadeanchorusa dot com .
Pretty certain there was no time limit for the offer, I spoke with bluewater supplies, arranged a time to meet and walked it across the road to the boat. £531 for a 25Kg. Probably something like £1.30 a night so far...

Though this is not a genuine CQR, it is at this pin/joint that terminal wear failure does occur - setting becomes increasingly erratic.
Not though, until the anchor has done about 2000 deployments.

I've had no luck with getting a reply from "info@spade-anchor.co.uk" which is the address given on the bluewatersupplies web site. In my mail to them I also pointed out that their main web site (ie if you click on the link for "main equipment website" at www.bluewatersupplies.com) is down. It seems to have been down for more than a couple of weeks now. If they're still in business that isn't a very encouraging sign.

fwiw currently sitting on the bow roller until I acquire a new anchor is a 15Kg cqr-style (unmarked except for the weight: presumably a copy) which has been unused in the cockpit locker since I bought the boat. For some reason it seems half the size/weight of the 20Kg one. I've also realised that in selecting a new anchor I'm going to have to measure up to check it will actually work with the positioning of the bow roller and the windlass

Maybe try Alex? See if he knows what's happening over at bluewater.

They were in business this time last year as I had a longish chat about re-galvanising vs zinc paint for my Spade. I got a phone number for them from the duty free shop next door which may have been a mobile or the number given on the site - it was the chap in the duty free who said try calling. I know this doesnt help hugely but I did get the impression they werent too responsive otherwise though I got a same day reply to an email a week or so later following up on the zinc paint.

Got a reply almost immediately from alex yesterday. Gotta love american customer service. spadeanchorusa are the us distributor. He said he'd forward my question about discount to head office and ping the jersey folks for me. Is there a reason why you bought the 25Kg anchor rather than the 20? Bigger may be better but from their sizing guide I would have thought 20 would have been what you wanted and I'm guessing they wouldn't be advising you to buy smaller than needed.

Reasoning was there wasn't massive difference in cost factored over a few years with the discount and living on the hook year round once every few years a bit more size might actually be very welcome.... :) Bow won't notice an extra 5Kg, no downsides really. Very common amongst long termers on the hook to have something a bit bigger.

This wind was apparently 180 deg opposite to the forecast..

Cue ##### to start going on about how we should all have lots of little anchors... ;)

Now I'm sure to those with an engineering background this is yet another stupid question but....How do they get that pin in in the first place if it doesn't come out?

It's a process known as upset forging. The pin is made overlong, and the free end beaten back on itself after inserting. I am pretty sure it's not an interference fit.

Wonder if this applies across this side of the pond?

Nicky's has inherited the Rocna cardboard templates I made when checking this for my boat. Should be hanging on her wall somewhere for you to borrow, and when I bought our current Rocna 25 they agreed to match the best online offer I could find, which saved me the hassle of finding somewhere to ship it.

As for performance, can't complain at all. Just last night in Sesimbra it didn't budge one bit when we, uhm, verified the correctness of the pilot book, which read "deserved reputation for strong local northerlies" :eek-new:

Last Thursday, while waiting for a quick sewing job (great service!), I noticed some templates on the floor under a rack by the used bits section.
