Interested to hear from anybody located in European waters who owns and operates one of these - accuracy, reliability, defects/problems, length of time in service, weatherproofing, corrosion resistance, spares availability and cost.

Doubt you will find anybody this side of the pond who has one, unless attached to an old American boat. It is very basic - about the same level of technology as the old Autohelm 3000 which went out of production 15 years ago. Cannot be interfaced with any instruments so just steers a compass course. Said to be robust.

They have never promoted it outside the US, perhaps because it would end up far more expensive than the competitors which are far more sophisticated and well established. The market for wheel drive pilots is now very limited as new boats have increased in size and below decks pilots have become relatively cheaper.

Dave and Sherry on Soggy Paws a CSY 44 used a couple of CPT autopilots and Dave wrote an article on their good and not so good points. This was on a semi circumnavigation.

They now have a catamaran but he still kept up his articles on the work he did on Soggy Paws as an archive. However a brief search of his archive failed to find it.

Dave is very helpful and I am sure he would forward you a copy is asked.

I was close to buying a CSY 44 that came without an AP and I would have fitted a CPT based on Daves experience and stories from a delivery skipper who always had one with him in his duffle when on a delivery. He told of a transatlantic West to East in a 60 ft schooner where his CPT got called into service on day two of the passage.
