CPES from Smiths in California seems to be pretty highly rated in the USA. Is there a U.K. stockist or an equivalent "clear penetrating epoxy system" more readily available.
Thanks for an advice. Cutting out the old wood and scarfing in new would be very tricky!

Most of the manufacturers of epoxy resins make a grade for penetrating wood. I use International's 'Everdure', and I can clean up my equipment, including brushes, with plain vinegar. However, penetrating epoxy doesn't penetrate as far as the manufacturers and sellers would like you to believe, so it isn't a really viable alternative to removing and replacing punky wood.
