I have been researching the history of a sturdy 22 cruiser manufactured in Canada (Vancouver B.C.). It was made by Davidson Mfg. (Hamish Davidson). These boats were produced between the years 1963 and 1972. I was surprised to see the exact same hull and specs with the name of COX 22 made in Brightlingsea, UK., in 1983! Now I'm very curious who has copied who...or what is the history of Cox Marine in the UK. This is quite a celebrated little cruiser in these waters, but there has been no mention of the design originating in England. I would love to hear from Cox owners about their boats, or any history of the manufactures connections to Hamish Davidson in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.

Hello have you had any luck researching the history of the cox 22, I own a cox 22 it's a great sea boat and sails remarkably well. I brought it due to having a young family and I needed a stable and safe boat.

Hi to all!
I have also a Cox 22 bought in Germany. They told me here that a couple of them are sailing in Denmark.
My one has both masts and a new inboard 30 ps perkins that has enough power for the boat.
I do not have much technical information about the boat I would thank anybody that sends me anything as scan of the original catalogues or technical drawings, etc.
I´m still searching for an original boom for the smaller mast, and of course sails (!).
Any information about behaviour of the Cox 22 in heavy waters is also interesting.
Some expert told me that the small mast is very usefull while traveling with the engine alone in heavy wetaher as a stabilizer for side waves. If a Cox 21 has crossed the ocean, than the Cox 22 could do good or better?
Any chance to croos over to England (from Holland) without problems?
The picture of "Mariadela" is to see under: http://www.dupetit.com/english/images/mariadela.jpg
I´ll try now to upload the picture to this forum too.

Regards and till soon.

I have a Swin Ranger (22ft) which is almost identical to the Cox 22 and was also made a Brightlingsea. I think the hulls are identical. Would any Cox 22 or Swin Ranger owner be able to measure the size of the section of the bottom of the mast? I think it will be about 100mm by 70 mm but I would like to know as I don't have a mast at present and would like to refit one. I would also be interested to know the length of the mast and whether the boat is sloop or ketch rig. Thanks.
PS Here is a link to the Swin Ranger web site which does show the dimensions of the boat.

There is a Cox 22 here in Barbados, but without the sailing rig - she is used as a commercial fishing boat.
Here is a (rather poor) photo of her alongside in the Fishing Harbour at Bridgetown :

The previous owner told me that she is about 15 years old - she has a marinised Rover 4 cylinder 59 hp diesel engine. The extra spray dodger on the back of the wheelhouse was added after she came here, to give a bit of shelter from the sun.

I understand that she recently sold for GBP 5,000.

Hi Bajansailor!
I wonder if the Cox 22 has being sailed to Barbados or how it came over the ocean to there...
Good to know that they can come so far!
regards
Alfredo
