Maybe that's why the UK is the 4th largest economy in the world and France is 5th. Maybe that's also why so many entrepreneurial young French people now work and live in England. Having said all that I do have to admit that the French probably have the highest quality of life in the world.
Does this mean that we don't rip people off in this country, with the price of fuel, food, services and cars, we don't pay through the nose for marinas and everything we buy for a boat, I was just wondering!!! Because I have noticed this, just a little of course! I didnt realise the state of a country was measured by its economy growth, silly me.
So true. On our recent cruise I spoke to many Dutch, German and Danish people who all had the same message. "We used to love visiting Britain but now the berthing (and other things) is so expensive, we no longer come".
Our most expensive berth in the past 5 weeks was 22 Euro, 14 pounds, in the new, very well equipped marina at Ijmuiden, including electricity and showers. This is always rather expensive, as it cost a lot to build and they have something of a captive market. In Denmark we generally paid about 10 - 12 Euro, inc electricity plus showers at 42 pence each. At one location we paid 8 Euro! No wonder that Baltic boats have no bow rollers - who would anchor, except in the calmest of conditions, at these prices?
Well I'd rather we were 5th - and not embarrassed by such meanness and greed.
And on the subject of France - sorry to use such a base example but walk into any cafe, bar or petrol station to use the toilets and it's no problem. Over here ? oh no, you've gotta buy something first !
Fair coment, i agree with you 100%, its not just cowes almost any where you can go in the solent you will get the same during summer BUT go in winter, the prices are good, the service is excelent and its close to the pub
