Cowes Yacht Clubs & Visiting Yachtsmen

Two of my sailing friends and I have decided it is time to introduce our girlfriends to sailing, so we need to sharpen up our act. We suspect that our culinary skills are insufficient to keep the fairer sex happy (frankfurters & piccalilli might seem like a meal to us, but not to them I fear).

We have come up with the stonking suggestion of taking them for a Yacht Club lunch on the Saturday. We are starting our day in Southampton and hope to end up at Bucklers Hard, so any help in identifying a yacht club who hang out the 'visiting yachtsmen welcome' sign would be a godsend.

Sadly, neither LoLYC or LSC seem to have reciprocal arrangements with clubs in Cowes. In Burnham, RBYC welcome visiting raggies for lunch, provided they conform to the dress code. Does anyone know of an equivalent in Cowes or similar?

Well, the RYS is know for throwing it's doors open to all visiting yachtsmen. I suggest you moor in their nice new marina, stroll up to the clubhouse into the nice dining room - it's just behind the big room with the red and white roof. You'll recognise the member's dining room from all the silver about the place, and the paintings of various members of the royal family and the aristocracy dotted about the walls. Plonk yourself down at the table (don't worry about a dress code, shorts and flip flops are fine) and enjoy!

I'll second that - pretty good for nosh in the evening - no particular dress code, reasonable sailing gear is fine.

I've never had an issue in getting into RCYC, CCYC, or ISC. I like the sound of the proposed approach to RYS and look forward to the day I'm not so so pi**ed to forget the suggestion, but pi**ed enough to give it a go.
