I have been too busy until now to realise that I have booked a week off work to go on the boat the same week as Cowes week. Obviously Cowes itself is going to be very busy but does anyone have any experience of what the impact is on places like Portsmouth,Hamble River,Lymington,Newtown Creek,Beaulieu,Yarmouth etc.

I am really interested in how difficult it will be to get a berth for the night in these places and how busy the shoreside restaurants etc will be.

Plan B is to get out of the Solent altogether I suppose.Any advice welcome.

You will always be welcome in the Westcountry - we restrict our wrecking activities to much larger vessels with something worth pinching! PM me for a list of pleasant anchorages to avoid grasping harbours/marinas. I even know of the odd place where you can spend a night on a mooring for free!

I would not tell anybody where it is. otherwise they will start charging! ( it must be the only place on the S coast thats free.)

Nah. There's plenty of places to go if you are prepared to drop the hook. An art which seems to be rapidly going out of fashion these days. There are still a few places where visitors can spend a night on a mooring for free, too, and no authorities to worry about. You can also find a few places where you can lie alongside so long as you don't mind taking the ground at LW.
I am prepared to tell privately, but as you say if it is made public somebody might try to cash in.
