Feeling peckish on Sunday I popped into Cowes for a sausage supper at lunchtime. Got stung for £8.50 on the outside pontoon of the yacht haven. Most expensive sausage & chips I've had! Does anyone know of a cheap short stay place in Cowes with easy access to the Town?

How big's your boat ? Can you get it on the town quay?? (behind red jet terminal )
Other than that, E Cowes cheaper, but need water taxi to cross to main town, or Folley, further up.

Just before Spencers on the West side there is a small public pontoon which is more reasonably priced and is a short walk into town. Blink and you miss it.

"Cheap" and "Cowes" - now they're two words you don't often see in the same sentence!!

Shepherds Wharf used to be much more reasonable - but it depends on the tide. If you've got the 1.6m draft version same as me, then you'll run out of water on the shallow patch just outside Shepherds Wharf, if you're nearer than an hour/hour and a half from low water.

Pick up the piles just above the town quay. There is often a free space. There isn't a short stay rate, but I have never been charged for a short stay.

(PS Last did this 3 years ago, things may have changed).

There used to be a couple of spaces in the Yacht Haven where you could moor for free over lunch - which I thought was jolly decent of them.

Have they got rid of those now?

The cheapest place I know in Cowes is the floating pontoon just off the Clarence boat yard down from East Cowes marina. Mind you , you'll need to use your tender to get ashore or call a water taxi which is expensive. Best place to land is UK Sailing School.
