I Plan to be there - have persuaded son that he should be there as anchor person, and intend to anchor just inside the breakwater. Happy to have anyone else join me alongside, but it will be a tad shallow

Wonderful event, but just about to head off on non boating week with swmbo and kids, so missing it this year

Years ago I determined I'd never take another boat there! I couldn't anyway as I'm on the hard a the Medina Yard, but I will be showing up tonight to sleep aboard and I will be down on the shore in time.

I certainly had a distaste for sitting at a mooring buoy outside cowes bobbing up and down and praying that those people who have had a glas of alchohol too many dont use my boat as a dodgem. Thus I hide in the shallow bit inside the breakwater - bit difficult this year cause the tide is not very helpful,

Just hope the rain stops.

LOCAL NOTICE TO MARINERS NO 20(T) OF 2005

FIREWORK DISPLAY
SKANDIA COWES WEEK - FRIDAY 05th AUGUST 2005 AND CLOSURE OF MAIN FAIRWAY 2125 HRS – 2150 HRS
Notice is hereby given that at approximately 2130 hours on Friday 5th August a firework display will take place from three barges moored close North of No1 Fairway Buoy

(WGS 84 Positions 50 46.10N / 001 18.06W and 50 46.10N / 001 18.00W). A 150-metre exclusion zone will be maintained around these positions.

The positions may be modified depending on the prevailing winds and weather on the night.

The main fairway will be closed to all traffic from 2125 hrs to 2150 hrs for the duration of the firework display.

From 1900 hours onwards, Harbour patrol vessels will be directing small craft to moorings and anchorages, as appropriate.

All spectators including all Harbour users are reminded it is an offence under the Merchant Shipping Act 1949, Section 21 to discharge distress flares, rockets and pyrotechnics except for the purpose for which they are intended.

Any persons found to disregard this notice, before, during and after the firework display will be prosecuted.

A careful watch and monitoring will be maintained by Cowes Harbour Radio (VHF Channel 69) with Marine Police and Coastguard vessels assisting.

Safety of Navigation

Notice is also given that during the time period preceding, during and immediately following the firework display, particular attention must be given to Safety of Navigation within the Harbour approach area and main navigable fairway.

All river users and mariners are advised that the area of Cowes Harbour is likely to be severely congested during this period. All vessels should navigate with extreme caution and at a speed consistent with safe navigation.

Mariners are reminded that a speed limit of 6 knots is in force at all times for the Cowes Harbour Commission Area of Jurisdiction.

No vessel may anchor so as to obstruct the main fairway and its approaches. All vessels are reminded that the seabed around all mooring buoys may be fouled with chain and ground tackle. Such ground tackle may extend a significant distance from mooring buoys.

Warning - Many small recreational vessels may be poorly lit.

Your attention is drawn below to the Local Notice To Mariners issued jointly by QHM Portsmouth and the Harbour Master, ABP Southampton.

Temporary 15 knot Speed Limit

This part of the notice is issued jointly with QHM Portsmouth and the Harbour Master, ABP Southampton, to advise mariners that a speed limit of 15 knots will be temporarily introduced in the Solent and Southampton Water to ensure safety of navigation for the Cowes Fireworks display on Friday 5th August 2005.

The 15-knot speed limit will be in force between 2130hrs and 2300hrs, 5th August 2005.

Mariners are advised that this measure has been introduced to reduce the risk of collision between the many hundreds of small craft, which gather to view the fireworks display. In previous years collisions have occurred, particularly after the event, which have resulted in serious personal injury to passengers and crews of small craft.

Mariners are reminded of the importance of displaying the correct navigation lights, maintaining a good lookout at all times in all directions, and proceeding at a speed consistent with safe navigation, particularly at the conclusion of the display as spectator craft get underway and return to their home ports.

Mariners are reminded that a speed limit of 6 knots is in force at all times for the Cowes Harbour Commission Area of Jurisdiction.

Cancel Cowes Harbour Commission Local Notice to Mariners No17(T) of 2005.

This notice will be self-cancelling on 6th August 2005.

The plan is to be there.
Hoping to park up a bit further out, maybe just off Bramble or near the north channel. I know, a long way but I'm afraid of the loud noises.

We will be anchored as close in as we can on the shallows off East Cowes, you will spot us easily because when the fireworks end we will turn on every light we have including deck lights.
Maybe this year the ribs and mobo's steaming out of Cowes will spot us in time to miss us by more than 2 metres!
