Did our annual outing to Cowes Fireworks on Friday. Motored across from Port Solent at about 4pm and dropped the hook. Quickly followed by a number of yachts doing the same behind us.

Entertainment started with an aerobatic display.

Rolled around at anchor a bit mainly due to fast speedboats passing very close and a couple of these:

Kept watch on bow while at least three boats tried to tie up to our anchor buoy - no mooring buoy anywhere near so what did they think it was connected too?

A few sunset shots:

Then the fireworks started. Slow exposure on a rolling boat doesn't work too well!

Fantastic display as usual. Turned all our lights on at the end of the display to make sure the speeding ribs could see us, also lit up our anchor buoy with our spotlight - seemed to do the trick. Waited around 20 minutes for the mad dash to die down and then took a slow 13 knot cruise back to PS.

Anyone else go?

Went last year. Fantastic display but as you say, damn ribs and speedboats thrashing around in the dark was a pain. Thanks for the great pics--wish we could have been there this year. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Yup - was great fun .... we only waited 5 minutes before departure and took a speed 6 knot run back to Gosport ... so you passed us quite early on then!

Great pics - thanks. We wimped out and anchored in the Beaulieu river to watch from there. Well, djefabs anchored and gained two hangers-on /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Not quite the same effect as the bangs are somewhat delayed - but a lovely place to sit and watch them from. Not sure I'm brave enough to go out in the mêlée that occurs after the fireworks!

We had a great weekend and thanks to Derek's quick-deploying tender, we even made it to the shore before the "wreckers" disappeared with one of our fenders /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Yeah, we thought about mooring in Beaulieu river as well but we ended up mooring just before the lines of mooring buoys start (Cowes roads?) and it wasn't too bad afterwards. Did notice a lot of boats stay in Osbourne bay to watch.
