Cowes chain ferry

General comments from a friend is the staff are trying to get it as close to the shore as possible so cars don't scrape. Why they can't get the longer hinged flaps made in a matter of days is beyond me especially with the festival!

What about some long aluminium ramps which are placed over the "gap" at the interface between the end of the ramp and the land ? A pair on each side would suffice until the alterations and would only need to be used at certain states of tide.

....'elf and safetey would have a field day.... men with clip boards would descend... do you have three separate anchor points for those aluminium ramps, sir? Have your staff been trained in lifting said ramps..... etc etc etc etc

Agreed but I'm sure they have been doing it for many years. They've been given a craft not fit for purpose really. For 3.2m that's not on given all the information was known. Tides and ramp angles for example. It's a real shame.

....the phrase.."no sh1t Sherlock..." comes to mind.
Would it have been at all possible to model the outcomes with one of these here newfangled confusers...or even a pencil and paper and book of log tables? Rather than driving vans over it until one graunched whilst Tony crouched down watching it all?

Time to bring the old one back. She's still sat in Pompey Harbour. They could use her whilst they rectify the new vessel and add serviceable loading ramps. If the ferry goes unserviceable too many times, local folk will avoid using it and drive through Newport - it's not that far in a car. Outside of tourist season, that will be more of a problem.

Seems to be working ok at the moment ,went across twice yesterday ,as a foot passenger ,have to say was very impressed with it ,nice to be able to have a choice of sitting inside or out, also noticed that the inside seating has heating , going to be cosy in the winter .

I know I keeping going on but it is now stuck sideways on the shoreline and won't be running Monday due to "weather conditions".

Come on!! :D:D:D

The service will now be suspended around springish low tides. It will however be free to use until July. Fair enough. Still amazing ramp extensions can't be made and fitted in days.

I used it a couple of weeks ago as a foot passenger and watched cars approaching at all angles to avoid scraping as they loaded. It seemed so poorly designed compared to the previous longstanding vessel.

Shame for those that rely on the service and hope it can be resolved but it's obviously not going to be quick!
